King Jasyn IX and King James IX

2019 Monarchs

Behind the Crown

Our Monarchs are both transplants to our fair city of Mobile. Both have lived here off and on however, since the late 90's, so one could say they are full-fledged Mobilians.  Both are very active in their neighborhood association of South Lafayette and take great pride in giving back to their community.

King Jasyn IX is originally from Hazelgreen, Alabama, and he graduated from the University of Montevallo with a B.S. in Retail Merchandising/Textiles.

King James IX is originally from Orange Beach, Alabama, and he graduated from the University of South Alabama with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design and Painting.

King Jasyn IX has always had a musical background, but when he finally stood in the spotlight, he was hooked.  After graduation from college, he moved to Mobile to work in visual management and has continued to work in the retail industry for 31 years. Currently, he is a Regional Visual Coordinator covering locations in 5 states across the Gulf Coast.

King Jasyn IX believes he is living the dream enjoying a happy marriage in a pink house behind a white picket fence.  Out his kitchen window, he can always catch sight of his rock, Dauphin Way United Methodist Church.

One of his favorite ways to pass the time is sitting on the front porch talking with neighbors about dreams and making memories.  Another interest is performing at the local community theatres.  Mostly recently, he has performed in My Fair Lady.

King Jasyn IX has always had a fascination with costuming which lead him to his beloved Mobile.  He has participated in Mardi Gras since he stepped on Mobile's soil, and he has made so many wonderful friends and memories through the costumes he has made.  Yet nothing can top his work with creating monarchs' trains.  Those creations are very special, and he only makes them for very special friends.  The moment the lights hit those tiny rhinestones, he literally holds his breath for a moment to soak in the brilliance of Mardi Gras.

King Jasyn IX

King James IX

King James IX loves to work on the historic midtown home he shares with King Jasyn IX.  The beloved home has stood for more than 100 years in Mobile, and he loved nurturing the garden that surrounds it.

Mardi Gras has always had a special place in King James' heart. Some of his fondest memories as a child were making the trip to Mobile with his mother, sister and brother to watch the parades.

King James IX is honored to serve as this year's monarch along side King Jasyn IX and looks forward to many more enjoyable years with this wonderful group of people.

The Crowning

Monarch Reception

King James' crown features the symbolic crest of our Phoenix with a blue sapphire representing his birth month.  The back of the crown is personalized by his initials, the Celtic knot for his Irish heritage, the shamrock representing the trinity, and a Celtic cross representing his love of Ireland.  His scepter is adorned by the Celtic Cross accenting a jeweled fleur de lis.

King Jasyn's crown features the symbolic crest of the Phoenix, and the emerald eye represents Jasyn's love of all things Irish.  The back is personalized with his initials, the tree of life, the Celtic knot, and a personalized family piece.  His scepter is the only one of its kind ever carried by a monarch in Mobile.  From its jeweled hilt to the majestic point, it can only be considered a masterpiece.

The Kings would like to thank the artisans at Dynasty Collection for their dedication to all things regal and timeless.

The Monarchs' Trains

Each train is a representation of things both Kings consider treasured memories.

King James's love of the 1920's is represented in the design he created. The artwork evokes a feeling of nostalgia with its sharply defined outlines and bold color.  The train focuses on surface embellishments to create the illusion of depth.  The roaring 20's lives on in our beautiful city each year during carnival.  A short period of time where all are beautiful and full of revelry.

King Jasyn's train reflects both Monarch's Irish heritage with the display of Celtic knots and intricate stoning.  The Celtic symbol at the top stands for Father.  Both trains are in memory of their family's patriarch - Billy J. Fowler.  The shamrock in the center represents the Holy Trinity.

Finally, the gator represents both Monarchs' proud membership in the Loyal Order of the Gator.
